Aboveboard – Point Laundry, East Lansing, Michigan – July 25th, 2009

About Aboveboard: Seeing that the band had decided to record the tracks from Power Lines To Electric Times in a backward fashion, this was actually the last video of the series to be shot. Most of the ideas they had generated before leaving for the tour had been used in other cities and the boys decided, once again, to “let the city tell them where to go.” Eventually, they spotted Point Laundry resting in a fairly secluded strip mall. After giving it a drive-by and almost deciding to pass on the endeavor, Shirey then noted that he had seen a “younger dude” working the desk. After the “dude” halfway understood what the band was trying to do, he conceded access. Valentiger played with having each member sing a verse, with Shirey and choruses, but ultimately knew they needed to incorporate harmonium, the only instrument brought along that hadn’t been used yet. So it ended up with Kehoe on all the verses, Shirey, also on guitar, singing chorus and harmonies and Rider on cinematography. The second take proved satisfying to both the band and the small crowd of customers who had gathered, both awestruck and confused. The “younger dude” in charge also filmed the event on his MacBook, saying, “My boss will never believe this.”
