After dinner at Cottage bar and beers at Hopcat, Valentiger then trotted their way through the rain to share a bill at the DAAC with K Records’ Karl Blau and Lake. As equipment was set up, an applause was given after the Valentiger blinds-banner, now quite rickety, was finally brought into working order. Then, the band was crammed onto the smaller stage in front of Lake’s equipment, leaving Shirey with minimal room for dancing. However, Kehoe seemed to pick up the slack. The two were having a hard time hearing themselves sing without monitors, but made the best of it in this hallway-like art space. The set was kept very short, choosing only their best songs with “Man On Fire” striking a chord with yet another audience. By the end of it, I do believe some new faces were really turned on to Valentiger and CD’s and shirts were sold. Shirey had to part into the night halfway through Karl Blau’s set, but Rider and Kehoe made sure to dance their way through a good majority of Lake’s poppier songs. Some WYCE faces were in attendance and a big thanks goes out to the DAAC for bringing in a great independent show.
Great unanswered question of the night: Is a cheap raincoat inappropriate in public when it’s raining?
