Jukes – July 16, 2011
Newly entering VALENTIGER, Kahler finally got a break with some familiar territory. His previous band, Duffy had shared the Jukes stage many times with VALENTIGER before. But more than anything, it was the fact that the band merely needed perform a standard rock and roll set with no weird catches other than the debauchery that comes with a “Jukes Night.” There have been so many Jukes nights, I sometimes have a hard time telling them apart. At almost all of them, I’ve destroyed some part of the drop ceiling by stuffing my guitar up in there during some off-the-rails guitar solo. There was that weird TV that projected the bands that were only 6ft away. Our last set surely ended in some raucous covers, which induced screaming, chanting and Beer Monsters and myself climbing onto and jumping off of whatever was in sight. The best part was that, no matter the bill, it always felt like home with all our friends and family there, doing shots and making the place our own.
In particular, I do remember it being our first Jukes Night with Kahler and it was a blast. Kehoe was in attendance, and it just felt right somehow. Things kind of fell into place that night with a few shows under our belt and all of us just having a good time. I remember a chanting of “Kreuger” because I was wearing a sweater that resembled that of Freddy. Kehoe eventually made his way up to sing a few songs, though I don’t remember what, exactly. By the end of the set I had shed the sweater and VALENTIGER was on it’s way into a new era.
